2048 is an online reasoning game that is unmissable for its mix of simple moves with the need for good strategy and intelligence. Move the squares sideways and add powers of 2 until you reach 2048. Don’t be surprised if it’s not as easy as it looks; follow our tips to try to go further.
To play 2048 on computer and Android, no special configuration or installation is required. The game consists of a 4×4 square screen and starts with two spaces complete with the number 2. Press the arrows, and the numbers will move to the end of the line where they are. If the block touches another with the same number, they add up and only becomes a block with a higher number. The objective is to reach a block with the sum of 2048.
With each move a new number is added to the screen and if you don’t add enough numbers the screen will fill up and there will be no more possible moves, so you lose.
Reaching sum 2048 requires some strategy, like always watching how many sums each move can make, or whether a move will mess up the next moves. Some techniques can also help:
Waterfall
The idea is to try to corner the big numbers in the same corner of the screen. That way they are less in the way of smaller numbers, which are the majority. The new numbers are always 2 or 4 so it’s not much use for them to be on the side of a 64 or a 128, because that way no one gets a sum and the screen just gets fuller.
The screen is well organized and as the numbers grow they reach the corners. It’s the most intuitive and at the same time the most difficult way to determine how to do it, but with a few tries it’s possible to get more methodical.
Three directions
This technique consists of using only three directionals. Excluding, for example, the up arrow, the larger blocks tend to be further down, and the new numbers, 2 and 4, will always be relatively close to each other.
Ideally, you’ll want to bring the two techniques together a bit, eliminating one direction and putting the larger number in a corner. Finally, avoiding one more direction when there is a possibility for him to move, in this way, the evolution of the game is much greater.
