White offers better contrast with Crimson. Valentine’s Day and Christmas designs often feature Crimson color. Use CMYK formulations for Crimson in your page layout software when you’re planning a design project that will be printed commercially. 

Then use RGB values for the computer monitor display. When you’re working with SVG, HTML, and CSS, use hexadecimal designations. With the formulations below, you can produce crimson colors in different shades:

Crimson Glory: Hex #BE0032 | RGB 190, 0, 50 | CMYK 17, 100, 84, 8

Raspberry (web color; a dark rosy crimson): Hex #872657 | RGB 135, 38, 87 | CMYK 42, 96, 41, 19

Alizarin Crimson: Hex #E32636 | RGB 227, 38, 54 | CMYK 5, 98, 85, 1

Electric Crimson: Hex #FF003F | RGB 255, 0, 63 | CMYK 0, 99, 72, 0

Razzmatazz (Crayola crayon; a rosy crimson): Hex #E3256B | RGB 227, 37, 107 | CMYK 5, 97, 35, 0

Spanish Crimson: Hex #E51A4C | RGB 229, 26, 76 | CMYK 4, 99, 64, 1

How To Make Crimson Color

Crimson is a deep red with purple undertones. You can make crimson by combining a true red with some purple and white paint. 

When you mix these colors in the right proportion, a bright crimson is created. And can be used to paint furniture and walls, as well as to create watercolors and paintings on canvas. You can mix a small batch of paint at once or mix a large batch and store it for later use.

Here are the things you will need to create crimson paint:

  • Purple paint
  • White paint
  • Bright red paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Permanent marker
  • Artist palette
  • Airtight container

The following are steps to making Crimson:

  1. Apply three brush fulls of red paint to the palette. Add a half-full brush of purple and white paint.
  1. Mix the 3 paint colors. The colors probably won’t appear quite perfect yet. To make the hue bright, add more red.
  1. To darken the color to your desired shade of Crimson, keep adding more red, white, or purple. Keep a record of the paint ratios that you use, to replicate the results on a bigger scale.
  1. After producing your desired color, repeat the mixing ratio on a bigger scale. For instance, if you used 1 part white, 2 parts purple, and 5 parts red paint, you would mix the remaining paint in the same proportions, but with larger amounts.
  1. Keep the paint in an airtight container until you want to use it. To help you remember the container to use when you need Crimson paint, mark the color on the outer part of each container.
